5 final steps for the presentation of your thesis in APA format

When the desired moment to finish the thesis has arrived, you must have certain aspects in mind to complete your degree work according to the APA Standards, and to deliver an impeccable manuscript we leave these 5 final steps for the presentation of your thesis

The APA Standards establish simple rules for the format of the degree work

Type and size of preferred letter: Times New Roman to 12 points. In this aspect the APA Standards recommends this typeface of the serif family for the body of work because it facilitates readability and sans serif typefaces in the figures. You should avoid types of compact letters or dry stick.

The line spacing: must be double spaced throughout the text, this includes footnotes, citations, reference lists. The single or 1.5 space should only be used for tables and figures.

The indentation and special characters such as diacritics, accented letters, mathematical signs, symbols, Greek letters must be done with the functions of your word processor, for example Word. This will help to give uniformity to the text.

The style of alignment should be on the left, also called broken or flag. The APA Standards recommend not to make lines of more than 16.51 cm, but as it is difficult to take a measurement of each line you can avoid cutting words with dashes

The margins must be all uniform, the recommendation is 2.54 cm.

Note: some universities and institutions establish different rules for the presentation of thesis, for example, an interlinear or margins of different measures. If that is your case, you should only combine the provisions of your home study with the APA Standards.

Although the APA Standards Manual in its 6th edition does not specify the use of preliminary pages, these are very common in the degree works. We refer to cover pages, proof of approval of the tutor, dedication, acknowledgments and the index. The APA style includes the author’s note, which must be placed after the cover and before the summary. That is, precisely, the location that you must assume for the preliminaries of your thesis and in the order mentioned and, if there is no specific provision of your university or institute with respect to these pages, you must follow the APA format style for its presentation . You should not number these pages, unless they tell you otherwise, but you should consider them for the final page of your thesis, that is, the accounts without placing a number.

When dealing with a thesis, that is, an academic investigation, the title must be constructed in such a way that its reading of the objective of the research. Avoid sophisticated titles, the important thing here is the precision. Do not use abbreviations or redundancies. According to the APA Rules you must be concise, use no more than 12 words and center the title on the page

Write a brief synthesis that offers a panoramic view of the contents of your thesis. You must expose the topic developed, the methodology used, the results and the conclusions in a short and clear way. It must be descriptive, but not evaluative. The opinions, analysis and judgments you leave for the body of the investigation. Your purpose is to offer a general idea that allows the reader to locate the scope and delimitations of your work. Take into account the following considerations of the APA Standards:

Do not exceed the word limit: 150 to 250.

Write the summary in a single paragraph, without indentation.

It must be on a new page, immediately after the preliminary pages. The numbering begins with the summary in Arabic numerals.

Use the active voice and verbs.

Place the word Summary in the header and centered

Text processors such as Word have the spell check tool, although useful, by itself is not enough to ensure proper wording. Carefully read your work one last time to minimize the presence of spelling and syntax errors.
